WHAT: Township trustees meetings April 7 and 21

PRESENT: Todd Garland, Jeff Tucker and Dennis Kuchta

Trustees:

• Announced Ohio Department of Transportation plans for a roundabout at state Routes 5 and 534 near Dunkin’. The project is planned for 2030. Officials said other traffic upgrades include work at the intersection of state Route 305 and U.S. Route 422.

• Gave first reading to place a 1-mill renewal levy for the road department, a 1-mill renewal for the police department and 1-mill renewal for fire and emergency medical services for the November general election. The county auditor’s office will certify the millage and amount each levy will generate for the May meeting.

• Are working with Newton Township officials on plans for work on Hewitt Gifford Road, which is located in both townships.

• Heard from Cindy Mines of Champion that a quote is being submitted to the county metroparks for the historic log cabin in the township.

• Will work with the county engineer’s office for chip and seal work on Shanks Phalanx Ridge Road, Collins Drive, Erie Street and Depot Street.

• Approved Barrackman Tree Service at $1,000 for removing four leaning trees in the right-of-way in the 900 block of Bailey Anderson Road.

• Approved Middlefield Sign Company at $2,590 for replacement signs at the township park.

• Heard from the county health department the structure at 544 Braceville Robinson Road has been declared unsafe for habitation and is set for demolition.

• Hired summer workers Austin Stassimis, Caden Short, Ethan Magoulick, Maxwell Young and Thomas Beck Jr. each at $15 per hour for road and cemetery work.

• Approved sale of a 2003 Monte Carlo on govdeals.com, which was an impounded vehicle by the police department.

• Set garage sale weekend for Aug. 7 to 9.

Lordstown

WHAT: Village council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Robert Bond, Jessica Blank, Lamar Liming, Mark McGrail, Jamie Moseley, Ron Radtka and Mayor Jackie Woodward

Council:

• Approved having Solicitor Matt Ries file an appeal to the decision last month by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to grant a discharge permit to Clean Energy Future-Trumbull Energy Center. The matter involves concerns by officials of discharge from the company getting into the nearby Mud Creek and its effect on nearby rural properties.

• Heard from police Chief Brent Milhoan of the need to get a new cruiser for the police dog unit, as well as new firearms for the officers.

• Will host a community picnic 1 to 4 p.m. May 16 at Central Park off Salt Springs Road and a Memorial Day service 10 a.m. May 25 at the cemetery.

• Hired Brock Pyles, Vince Spano, Lucas McCloud and Philip Fisher as summer park workers.

• Will host a scrap tire collection June 8 to 15.

• Announced the Trumbull Mobile Market will be on site 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 14 in the parking lot by the administration building.
