COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has announced the death of Trumbull County inmate and sex offender Larry Lee Cole Sr., 71, who died April 26.

No other details of Cole’s death were released. Cole had been incarcerated at Belmont Correctional Institution in St. Clairsville at the time of his death.

Cole was convicted of two counts of rape and sentenced Feb. 17, 2021, by former Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay to 10 years to life in prison.

The case involved the rape of a 9-year-old girl known to Cole. McKay also ordered Cole be labeled a Tier 3 sex offender, which requires lifetime registration with the county sheriff’s office wherever he lived after his release.
