Man sentenced in Kinsman drunken driving crash

WARREN — A Geauga County man was sentenced last week to three years of probation, three days in jail and 120 days of house arrest after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular assault and OVI.

Arne I. Siekkinen, 60, of Willamsfield, pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of aggravated vehicular assault and OVI. An Ohio State Highway Patrol report states Siekkinen was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala northbound on a Kinsman road around 8:15 p.m. Feb. 5, 2025, when he went off the road and struck a pedestrian who was getting his mail.

The Impala also struck the pedestrian’s car that was parked on the side of the road.

The 61-year-old man suffered serious injuries, including broken bones.

The patrol report stated Siekkinen registered a .109 blood-alcohol content, above the .08 legal limit for driving.

Siekkinen’s driver’s license was also suspended for five years.

Warren man pleads in toddler shooting incident

WARREN — A city man pleaded guilty last week in a case where a 2-year-old boy lost his finger after shooting himself in the hand.

Nirell Frank, 23, of Ohio Avenue NW, Warren, pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony charge of child endangering before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Sarah T. Kovoor.

He will be sentenced once a background investigation is completed, and could face up to three years in prison.

Frank was babysitting the toddler when the 2-year-old got hold of Frank’s Glock 21 .45-caliber pistol and shot himself in the hand Sept. 18, 2025, court records show. As part of the plea deal, Frank agreed to forfeit the gun.

Fire destroys Weathersfield business

WEATHERSFIELD — A weekend fire destroyed an engine repair shop in Weathersfield.

A Trumbull County 911 spokesman said fire crews received a call at 11 p.m. Friday of a fire at Hamrick’s Diesel Repair on South Main Street with Weathersfield and Niles fire departments responding.

Reports state that when crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed and there were burning tires and trucks on fire outside the building.

Officials said there were no injuries, but the building was destroyed.
