Howland man pleads to child porn charges

WARREN — A former Howland man who is serving a 24-to-28-year prison sentence for child pornography pleaded no contest Monday to an additional four counts that the 11th District Court of Appeals sent back to the local court in May.

Trent Addicott, 29, entered the no contest plea to four counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a juvenile before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald Rice, who sentenced him to the same eight-year, concurrent prison term. Addicott was found guilty of 11 charges — these four and seven others involving child pornography, child abuse and animal sex charges — at trial in August 2024. He has been housed at the Chillicothe Correctional Institute since Sept. 18, 2024, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction website. His first parole hearing is set for May 3, 2048, the website shows.

The 11th District Court of Appeals sent the four charges back to the local court because a panel of appeals judges said some of the evidence presented at Addicott’s trial was hearsay. Instead of opting for a new trial that was to begin Monday, Addicott decided to plead no contest and was represented by defense attorney Jeff Goodman.

During his 2024 trial, video evidence played to jurors showed Addicott engaging in sexual activity with a dog five times, one of which was in the presence of a 2-year-old child. Photographs also were presented depicting Addicott fondling himself with the young minor nearby, according to a news release from Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins.

In his original sentencing, Rice called the pictures and Addicott’s actions “absolutely despicable.”

“Your self-made videos (of sex with the family dog) is one of the most disgusting things I have had the displeasure to watch inside my courtroom in the last 32 years,” the judge told Addicott at his sentencing.

Watkins said he was pleased with the outcome of the remanded case and also cited the efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman and law enforcement investigators, including Howland police detective Nicholas Brancaccio.

Wildman stated Addicott is a “child abuser, child pornographer, animal abuser and sexual deviant.” Addicott was labeled a Tier 2 sexual offender, meaning after his release from prison, he would have to register with the local sheriff’s office twice per year for 25 years.
