Valley communities to receive cemetery grants
COLUMBUS — Four Mahoning Valley communities will receive grant money to improve their cemeteries.
The communities were among 45 nonprofit cemeteries across the state sharing $104,000 from the Fiscal Year 2025 Cemetery Grant Fund, the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing announced in a news release Tuesday.
Vienna Township received $2,500 to clean, repair and restore monuments. St. Patrick Cemetery in Hubbard, operated by the Diocese of Youngstown, received the same amount for the removal of three large interconnected trees, while Howland Township Cemetery received $2,400 to repair and restore its maintenance garage.
Poland Township was the lone Mahoning County community to receive grant funds from the program, receiving $2,500 to repair and reset monuments in Lowellville Cemetery.
“This is the seventh year the Division has awarded grant funds to assist registered nonprofit cemeteries in completing critical projects that may otherwise never be addressed due to lack of funding,” REPL Superintendent Daphne Hawk said.
