WARREN — A Trumbull County Common Pleas Court judge Tuesday sentenced Rashawn Jordan to 14 to 19.5 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Jordan, 36, waived a presentence investigation, instead opting for immediate sentencing by Judge Ronald Rice after pleading guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter with a firearm specification and two counts of weapons under disability in connection to the 2023 shooting death of Eric Shannon.
Jordan originally had been charged with murder before accepting a plea agreement.
The victim’s brother, Rashawn Shannon, told the court he’s had sleepless nights and dealt with a range of emotions since Eric Shannon’s death.
“At the end of the day, nobody wins since I can’t get my brother back,” he said.
Jordan apologized to Shannon’s family, telling them the situation was “very senseless” and that he wished it hadn’t happened.
Rice told Jordan that anger mixed with guns tends to breed violence.
Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker said the investigation conducted by Warren police detective John Greaver utilized several conversations through social media and email where Jordan had admitted to the shooting.
The shooting took place Sept. 24 near the intersection of McMyler Street NW and Parkman Road NW. Becker said Jordan crossed the street and shot Shannon four times. Police arrived to discover Shannon, 36, on the porch of a residence in the 1100 block of McMyler Street.
Neighbors told police Shannon and Jordan had an ongoing dispute throughout the day before the shooting took place late at night.
