LaBrae approves new five-year pact for superintendent

LEAVITTSBURG — The LaBrae Board of Education on Monday approved a new five-year contract renewal agreement for Superintendent Anthony J. Calderone.

The contract calls for salary increases, averaging 1.9 percent, over the life of the agreement. The new contract is effective Aug. 1 through July 2024.

Calderone has been district superintendent since 2011. His current contract expires July 31.

Board President Russell Sewell said Calderone’s new salary for the 2019-20 school year will be $100,647. It then increases to $102,660 in 2020-21, $104,662 in 2021-22, $106,598 in 2022-23, and $108,464 in 2023-24.

Sewell said the board values stability and continuity, and believes Calderone has displayed proven leadership during his eight-year tenure leading the district.

“Renewing his contract secures the leadership and continuity the board wants moving forward. We see this contract as mutually beneficial. It allows the district to secure stable leadership for the next five years with a salary level that is in line with our fiscal cap abilities while providing Mr. Calderone appropriate compensation that is competitive for our region,” Sewell said.

Under Calderone’s direction, LaBrae has performed very well academically while remaining fiscally strong, he said.

“He understands our community, and he is always forward thinking and working to ensure the district is focused on improvement in all areas, such as our growth with technology to improve the student learning experience and to improve how efficiently we operate across all aspects of the district,” Sewell said.

Calderone said he was honored to be able to continue serving such a supportive community.

“I’m truly appreciative of the trust and support displayed by our board of education,” he said.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a revised policy that bus drivers, or any employee who drives a vehicle for the district with a CDL license, be required to have a drug and alcohol testing;

• Employed Courtney Kish as an intervention teacher at the high school on a one-year contract;

• Accepted the retirement resignation of Mary Sanderson as athletic and attendance secretary, effective June 30;
