Man charged in connection to threat post
Action taken for shooting rhetoric on Facebook
WARREN — A post on Facebook threatening a shooting at a Warren City Schools building led to the arrest of a man from Warren.
Alan Michael Jordan, 33, is due to appear Thursday in Warren Municipal Court to answer to a charge of inducing panic in connection to a post on the social media site on Wednesday.
The post claimed a man has a child at the McGuffey PK-8 School who has been having problems with other children, and their parents should better control them or there may be a shooting, said Warren City Schools Superintendent Steve Chiaro. The post was made under the alias “Majjai Sabah An,” according to a police report.
Chiaro said he was made aware of the post around 2 p.m. Thursday when someone left a written message at his office at the board of education. The note stated the person didn’t have the ability or know how to send the post itself, so instead the note contained the Facebook post in its entirety. Once Chiaro got the message, he said he immediately notified the school resource officers, who took the information and began looking at the page and information.
“Once I got the message in my hands, I just started reacting,” Chiaro said.
There was an increased police presence from Thursday, when they became aware of the threat, throughout Friday, Chiaro said.
Chiaro said that neither the principal or the guidance counselor at McGuffey were aware of mistreatment, however, he asked the principal to meet with the child and find out if there are concerns the child or the mother may have.
“We want to ensure that our building is a welcoming and safe environment for our children,” Chiaro said.
Jordan was supposed to appear in court on Monday, but the hearing was postponed until Thursday so he can be screened for hospitalization, according to court records.
