COVID-19 cases increase by more than 4K in Ohio

The Ohio Department of Health on Sunday reported more than 4,000 new COVID-19 cases and 73 new hospitalizations statewide. There were 4,266 new cases, bringing the total to 1,390,015 since the pandemic began. Hospitals stretched thin in Valley

The Mahoning Valley’s hospitals are being forced to get creative with housing patients as floods of them with respiratory illnesses and COVID-19 occupy large swaths of beds. Weekly COVID-19 cases in Ohio drop slightly

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio rose by 42,972 last week, which is about 5,200 cases fewer than the number of cases one week earlier. The state had 53,344 cases the week ending Sept. 11, which was the peak number in Ohio since Jan. 16. COVID-19 cases in state still high

The number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 Ohio residents remains high, but the increase between last week and this week was the smallest since July. The state was at 698.7 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents for the period between Sept. 9 and Wednesday, according to statistics from the Ohio Department of Health. The rate was at 683.3 cases per 100,000 residents last week, meaning it increased by only 2.25 percent. The number, however, is more than 25 times higher than it was 10 weeks ago. ‘Vax-2-School’ coming for younger Ohioans

With a low number of younger people vaccinated against COVID-19, Gov. Mike DeWine said the state will run scholarships drawings to encourage those ages 12 to 25 to get inoculated. But DeWine said Thursday: “I can’t guarantee this will work. But I think it’s got a good shot at working,” and, “It’s worth trying.” The Ohio Vax-2-School drawings will be held weekly over a five-week period, starting the week of Oct. 11.
