ODH director: Delta surge cresting

Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, director of the Ohio Department of Health, urged Ohoians to get vaccinated while also saying Monday it appears COVID-19 cases are slowly beginning to decline across the state and across the nation. “I know it has been a very long journey. Vax-2-School prizes doubled

The state will double its Vax-2-School scholarship drawings — offering $2 million in awards instead of $1 million — but doesn’t have a start date for the program. September finishes with 193K cases

With 193,072 cases reported in September, the month ranks fourth for total COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. Only November, December and January rank higher — the latter just edging September by a 2,340-case margin. Cases reported Thursday add 6,530 to the new total 1,413,972 cases statewide. Since last week, the state has posted 48,172 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 sits at 21,945. The Ohio Department of Health usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. Trumbull prison sees surge in infections

The Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg saw a surge in COVID-19 cases this week, rising from eight last week to 15, and Mahoning County nursing homes saw a continued increase in cases. TCI had five staff cases last week and three inmate cases, but the number rose to seven staff cases and eight inmate cases this week. The Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown dropped from 12 staff cases last week to two this week. It has three inmate cases this week, up from one last week.
