The Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg saw a surge in COVID-19 cases this week, rising from eight last week to 15, and Mahoning County nursing homes saw a continued increase in cases.
TCI had five staff cases last week and three inmate cases, but the number rose to seven staff cases and eight inmate cases this week.
The Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown dropped from 12 staff cases last week to two this week. It has three inmate cases this week, up from one last week.
The Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown still has six staff cases and no inmate cases this week.
Across the state, prison cases declined from 219 last week to 205 this week.
COVID-19 cases at Mahoning County long-term care facilities such as nursing homes and assisted-living facilities rose this week from 45 cases last week to 51 this week. There also was an increase of 10 cases last week.
The Copeland Oaks Rest Home assisted living in Sebring had eight cases this week, up from six last week. The facility had one patient case and seven staff cases this week after having three patient and three staff cases last week.
The Inn at Christine Valley assisted-living facility in Youngstown has four patient and two staff cases this week after having none last week. Similarly, the Briarfield at Ashley Circle nursing home in Austintown has five patient cases and one staff case this week after having no cases last week.
Across the state, there were 1,449 COVID-19 cases this week at long-term care facilities, down from 1,515 last week. This week there are 635 patient cases and 814 staff cases across Ohio.
Mahoning County nursing homes and assisted-living facilities accounted for three additional deaths this week, now totaling 287. Trumbull County facilities still have 161 deaths, and Columbiana County facilities still have 79.
Trumbull County had three new COVID-19 virus cases this week, one each at three facilities -- the same three facilities as last week. Columbiana County facilities had not had a virus cases for quite a few weeks, but there were four cases this week among two facilities -- two each at the Circle of Care nursing home in Salem and Salem North Health Care Center nursing home.
