Safety forces on annual display

KINSMAN SAFETY DAY: Kinsman Township will host the annual Safety Forces Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the township park on Burnett East Road. There will be a bike rodeo, water battle, silent auction, and fire and police demonstrations. The bike rodeo is for ages 4 to 12 with sign-ups from 10 to 11 a.m. Prizes will be drawn after the water battle. Park plans beach party

BEACH BASH: The sixth annual Mosquito Lake Beach Bash will take place 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the park beach area and pavilion. The event will include free concerts by local bands, food trucks, 50-50 drawings and recreational activities. Those attending can take a lawn chair. Valley Juneteenth events

There are several Juneteenth events planned in Youngstown and Warren this week and over the weekend. Juneteenth (a combination of “June” and “nineteenth”) commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom. It arrived two-and-a-half-years after the Emancipation Proclamation and is celebrated to mark the effective end of slavery in the United States.
