Checkers tournament set for today

ANNUAL EVENT IN MCDONALD: The 46th annual John Pete Checkers tournament will take place 1 p.m. today at the Woodland Park pavilion, McDonald. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. The winner of each age group will receive a prize awarded at the conclusion of the tournament. YARD SALE WEEKEND: Leavittsburg will host its annual summer yard sales Friday through Sunday throughout the township. Signs will be posted letting people know which homes are participating. McDonald Homecoming Festival set

MCDONALD HOMECOMING FESTIVAL: McDonald will host its annual summer homecoming festival Wednesday through Friday at Woodland Park off Ohio Avenue 6 to 11 p.m nightly. The festival will include bingo, amusement rides, games, food vendors and entertainment. The Run of the Mill race will be at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday followed by a parade at 6 p.m. along Ohio Avenue. Peaches epitomize summer for me. From gorgeous peach pie cooling on the counter to a bowl of fresh peaches in my hand, summer doesn’t really start for me until peaches come into season.
