Polar Plunge set for Saturday
POLAR PLUNGE: The 2026 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Ohio will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the beach area at Mosquito Lake State Park in Bazetta. The Law Enforcement Torch Run Mosquito Lake Polar Plunge has participants dive into icy waters to support the athletes of Special Olympics Ohio.
Raise funds, rock outrageous costumes, and take the plunge — all while cheering on the movement that’s changing lives. There will be a costume contest. Preregistration is 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Cortland Moose Lodge, 6400 state Route 46, Mecca, and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mosquito Lake beach.
Registration also online through the Special Olympics Ohio website. Registration is $30 for adults and $20 for “junior plungers. Awards, lunch and plunge after party 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge.
MENTAL HEALTH TALK: “Mental Health … Let’s Talk About That” with Cadence Care Network will from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. Participants will learn how the conversation surrounding mental health has changed. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, Ext. 3.
SEWING BASICS: Sewing Basics will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. Participants will learn basic sewing skills and techniques, such as sewing on a button, from the Youngstown Area Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3.
LEAGUE SEEKS NOMINATIONS: The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown’s Hall of Fame nominations are open. Nominations must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 31. CLUB DANCE: USA Dance Youngstown-Warren Chapter is sponsoring a dance on Sunday at the Avon Oakes Ballroom, 1401 N. State St., Girard.
The evening features ballroom dance lessons with Sue Shardy and will start with a 5 p.m. Bachata Basics, a 5:30 p.m. intermediate lesson, followed by general dancing, from 6:15 to 9 p.m. A DJ will be playing a mix of ballroom, rhythm, Latin, swing and club dance music.
Fee is $10 for USA Dance members, $15 for nonmembers, $3 for students (full-time high school or college) is open to the public.
