CELEBRATING McKINLEY’S BIRTHDAY: President William McKinley’s 183rd birthday will be celebrated 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. The event will include games and activities and tours of the replica house. McKinley was the last president to be elected who served in the Civil War. At 2:30 p.m., Belinda Weiss, historian and director of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum in Niles, will discuss McKinley’s service in the Ohio 23rd Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
DINNER WITH THE PRESIDENT: The Peter Allen Inn in Kinsman will host “Dinner with President William McKinley” at 6 p.m. Jan. 31. The event will feature renowned historical interpreter Mike Wilson portraying the 25th president of the United States, William McKinley. Following dinner will be a program that blends historical insight with excerpts from McKinley’s speeches, many of which remain strikingly relevant to issues faced today. Tickets are $59 per person. BINGO NIGHT: Bingo Night hosted by the Knights Knation Midwest will be 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Metroplex Expo Center in Liberty. The event will include an $1,800 Gucci purse raffle. There also will be a 50-50 raffle and other raffles.
THERAPY DOG: The Girard Free Library will have Tom the librarian and Toshi the therapy dog at 10 a.m Tuesday. Toshi is part of Furever Friends Therapy Dogs, a nonprofit registered with the state
SEWING BASICS: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host Sewing Basics 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Participants will learn basic sewing skills and techniques, such as sewing on a button. Instruction will be provided by the Youngstown chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America. Registration is needed.
TRAVEL CLUB: The Trumbull County Travel Club will host its first meeting of the year 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warren Library, Information on upcoming trips will be provided. Wendt Tours will present information on the Great Western Adventure Trip. The club is open to anyone who would like to explore the world.
