Special Olympics set for Saturday

The seeing eye

SPECIAL OLYMPICS: The 14th annual Special Olympics Trumbull County Invitational will take place Saturday at Girard’s Arrowhead Stadium, 200 S. Highland Ave SE, Girard. This year, 150 athletes from five programs across four counties will participate in the event. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a day filled with various track and field competitions.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities — giving them ongoing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share their gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, fellow athletes, and the community.

ACCEPTING DONATIONS: TNR of Warren is asking for donations of gently used, undamaged items for its annual rummage sale. No clothing or electronics will be accepted. Items can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at the TNR Warehouse, 397 Folsom St., Champion.

The rummage sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 17 and 18 at the warehouse.
