Howland offers summer of recreational activities

HOWLAND – Arts and crafts, tennis, fishing, soccer and exploring the outdoors are among the many different youth summer recreational programs being offered each week through early August.

Howland Township trustees at their recent meeting said the programs have become very popular not only for township children, but other area children.

Programs are designed for children ages 6 to 13 to learn the basic skills to participate in a variety of different recreational activities while developing a healthy lifestyle to carry over to adulthood.

Camps are held 9 a.m. to noon with most at Howland Township Park or at Howland Middle School or Howland High School.

Camps are run by qualified staff in the recreational area. Campers should bring a water bottle and snack and wear athletic attire and shoes.

There is a fee for resident and nonresident per camp. Registration forms are available at the township administration building, 205 Niles Cortland Road. Call 330-856-2340.

Remaining camps are track and field and bowling June 27 to July 1; basketball July 5 to 8; football and cheerleading July 11 to 15; tennis and soccer July 18 to 22; golf and volleyball July 25 to 29; and Outdoor Adventure Aug. 1 to 5. Bowling and basketball are four-day camps because of the July 4 holiday.

The programs are co-sponsored by Howland Township and the Center for Sports and Recreation at Kent State University.
