Niles to open new park

RIVERSIDE PARK GRAND OPENING: Niles city officials will open Riverside Park during a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at noon Thursday.

Riverside Park, part of the Downtown Riverfront Revitalization Project, is located near the Mahoning River at the corner of First and Brown streets in Niles. A canoe and kayak launch area is aimed at enhancing downtown economic development and promoting water recreation.

Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz, members of city council and various city officials, along with representatives from the State of Ohio, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, MS Consultants and Integra Excavating, will be there for the ribbon cutting, and Tootie’s Lunchbox food truck also will be on site.

FRIENDS BOOK SALE: Hubbard Friends of the Library will host its annual spring book sale 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The sale will be in the first-floor meeting room at the Hubbard Public Library. Bring your own bag(s) and fill it with books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks for $5 per bag. All proceeds from the sale go directly to benefit the library and its new and ongoing programs, resources and activities.

CHURCH MOVIE NIGHT: The Church of Jesus Christ, 1900 Keefer Road, Liberty, will host its monthly movie night at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be a meal at 6 p.m. followed by the movie, “The Chosen,” at 6:30 p.m. A movie night and meal will be the fourth Wednesday of each month. The event is free and open to the public.

ISRAELI SPIRITS NIGHT: The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is hosting an Israeli Spirits Night for young adults at 7 p.m. Sunday at the JCC’s Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way. The evening will include Israeli alcohol tasting, Israeli non-alcoholic beverage tasting, Israeli snacks, music by DJ Danielle and dancing. The cost is $10 per person or $18 per couple. GAMING CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host Gaming Club 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Teens ages 12 to 18 are invited to choose from a variety of games, both on the table and on the screen. Snacks and all supplies will be provided. This program will take place once a month. TCHS FAMILY DAY: The Trumbull County Historical Society is partnering with the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library for its free Family Day 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the main library in Warren. There will be activities, food and entertainment.

PURSE BINGO: Inspiring Minds will host a spring designer purse bingo fundraiser Friday at its headquarters, 837 Woodland St. NE in Warren. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the first round of bingo begins at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature designer purses and accessories, basket raffles, door prizes, and more — all supporting Inspiring Minds’ mission to engage, inspire and empower local youth through education and exposure. Designer bags including Coach, Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton and more, are donated by individuals and businesses in the community.
