Eastwood Mall hosts YSU quarterback

A meet-and-greet with Youngstown State University quarterback Beau Brungard is scheduled 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road.

The New Middletown native and Springfield Local graduate became the first Penguins player in school history to win the prestigious Walter Payton Award, recognizing him as the top offensive player in the FCS.

The event is free, and fans are encouraged to bring Penguins gear, footballs or other personal memorabilia for Brungard to sign. There will be a live DJ, raffles and prize giveaways and an appearance from 4 to 5 p.m. by mascot Pete the Penguin.

Kombucha program brewing at Warren library

A program on “Kombucha Brewing Basics” is planned at 2 p.m. Feb.5 at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.

Participants will learn how to make kombucha at home as well as techniques for flavoring and fermentation. Participants will get to test out flavors and leave with their own kombucha starter.

The program is free, but registration is required, either online at wtcpl.org/events or by calling 330-399-8807, Ext. 200.

YSU plans Portfolio Day for local artists

The Youngstown State University art department invites all high school students, transfer students and aspiring artists to Portfolio Day on Feb. 7.

The event provides an opportunity to showcase creative work and receive valuable feedback from YSU’s art faculty, as well as learn about its programs, facilities and scholarship opportunities.

Those attending are encouraged to bring five to 10 pieces of their work to share at the event, which runs from 1 to 4 p.m. in Bliss Hall. Participation is free, but registration is required at bit.ly/YSU-Portfolio-Day.

Murder-mystery gala to benefit Crime Stoppers

Tickets are on sale now for “Murder at the Grand” a murder mystery and gala from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Feb. 14 at The Grand Resort Pavilion Room, 9519 E. Market St., Howland.

The evening includes a dinner buffet, cash bar, silent auction and 1940s themed costume contest.

Tickets are $85 per person and $150 per couple, and proceeds benefit Crime Stoppers of Eastern Ohio. For reservations or more information, call 440-290-6587.
