Stambaugh Youth Concert Band invites Cleveland ensemble to join up for concert

The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band will be joined by the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony for a concert at Stambaugh Auditorium

The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band provides music education and performance

opportunities for young musicians selected through an audition process. Students rehearse weekly with peers from schools and communities across Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Many SYCB alumni have gone on to study music at the collegiate level and pursue careers in music performance and education.

The program emphasizes teamwork and discipline, and fosters a lifelong appreciation of music. Now in its 24th season, the ensemble is led by Tyler Husosky, Kate Ferguson and Nathan Sensabaugh.

The Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony features many of the region’s most talented woodwind, brass and percussion students.

Its two ensembles rehearse weekly at Cleveland State University and present numerous performances throughout the school year, including collaborations with other wind ensembles.

The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band was one of these ensembles in January 2025 when SYCB performed at the Northeast Ohio Band Invitational.

CYWS has performed at Cleveland’s Severance Music Center for the past 37 seasons.

Both ensembles provide music education opportunities for instrumental music students in their communities.

These programs have helped to produce music educators and professional musicians who continue to live and work in the communities where they grew up.

The leadership of both SYCB and CYWS include YSU graduates who have remained in northeast Ohio as educators and musicians.

The concert starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Stambaugh, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Seating is general admission.

Tickets are $15 and are available in advance online at experienceyourarts.org and by calling 330-259-9651 and also will be available at the door.

Starting at $3.23/week.
