JCC gallery displays works of Watercolor Society members

An exhibition featuring the work of members of the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society is on display at the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Art Gallery.

“The Gift of Color: Holiday Masterpiece Exhibition” immerses viewers in the luminous world of the watercolor society, whose members range from newcomers to seasoned professionals who capture the beauty of nature and everyday life through expressive watercolors that celebrate texture, light and local inspiration.

According to member Betsy Ford, “As you look at the works in our show, we hope you will appreciate the wide range of styles and subjects our members present. We all strive to make color sing.”

Participating artists include Beth Basista, Susan Blake, John Burkard, Brenda Cohen, Shari Fry, Ed Gorse, Alison Gregg, Millie Hawkins, Ed Jones, Karen Nelson, Jean Nye, Jody Nudell, Lynn Rosati, Cindy Sayhoun, John Schlabaugh, Noreen Yazvac and Ford.

Since its founding in 1982 by 11 area watercolor artists, the society has provided a place where artists could share techniques, ideas and their work. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page: Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society.

The work will be on display through Dec. 26 at the gallery inside the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane. Admission is free, and a reception is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
