ACTS explores ‘Mystery of Edwin Drood’
The musical “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” opens Friday for a two-weekend run at ACTS Performing Arts Center.
Based on Charles Dickens’ final and unfinished novel, the musical invites audiences to solve the mystery for themselves — making every performance unique.
The musical was written by Rupert Holmes, best known to pop music listeners as the man who wrote and sang the 1979 No. 1 single “Escape (The Pina Colada Song).” The musical won five Tony Awards, including best new musical, in 1986.
Toni Schlemmer directs the ACTS production with Joseph Spurio as music director and Jessica Wellington as choreographer.
The cast features Mark Nelson, Cole Plotner, Kory Frederick, Susan H. Woge, Jack Dolinger, Roxanne Chapman, Allison Howe, Jennifer Samuels, Kenny Foltz, Norm Swiger, Austin Puccio, Alan John Anderson, Leann Puccio, Jen Stephenson, Gabriel Garcia, Lucy Palko, Beth Michael, Miranda Woge, Emma Ristvey and Ella Rice.
“The Mystery of Edwin Drood” will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 19 at ACTS Center for the Performing Arts, 40 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon, Pa. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students and are available online at www.actspac.org and by calling 724-815-4388.
