Up-and-comers to box on local fight card on Saturday night
Up-and-coming boxers from Northeast Ohio and Michigan will be competing in Youngstown on Saturday night.
Tom Cordell, a promoter and trainer at Golden String Boxing Club, said there will be 12 bouts on a USA Boxing-sanctioned card set to take place at 5600 Market Street.
“We got a team coming in from Detroit, Darkside Boxing out of Detroit,” Cordell said. “We’re going to have a lot of other different weights on there, a lot of young sound fighters.”
In addition to Detroit, Cordell said teams are coming into the area to compete from Cleveland and Akron.
The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale online, with ringside seats being sold at $25 per ticket, excluding fees. Balcony seating, general admission and standing room tickets are respectively priced at $20, $10 and $5. Veterans can purchase tickets at a 50% discount by using the coupon code “Vet” when buying online.
The card will also be broadcast online at FightChannel.com and iPPV.com for $19.95.
“What I’m looking for is something to blow up in Youngstown, and hopefully, they can fight like they used to,” promoter Art Menaldi said. “We definitely got the bandwidth. Now we need the viewers, enough to bring big-time boxing back to Youngstown.”
Cordell said Golden String, which is located on North Pearl Street on the East Side, will be represented by four fighters on the card.
“It’s going to be a good show,” Cordell said. “There’s going to be 12 exciting bouts on the card, so it should be pretty interesting.”
