Who will help with Obamacare defunded?

DEAR EDITOR: Question No. 1: Now that Congress appears to have defunded Obamacare subsidies for 22 million Americans, can something be done in an organized way to help the sickest among them who face a grim future? Question No 2: Will Congress maintain its focus on the distribution of health care by examining in depth America’s unique employer-paid group health insurance? This scheme is mistakenly assumed by most everyone to be obvious and sound, although it has escaped actual examination by competent institutions for 80 years. In a letter published here in June 2025, I explain ...

GOP is the heart of the real problem in Ohio

DEAR EDITOR: Ohio has had a Republican governor since 2011, the Ohio Senate has been controlled by Republicans since 1985, the Ohio House has been controlled by Republicans since 2011 and the Ohio Supreme Court had a Republican majority for the last 20 years. Are you happy with Ohio’s sales tax, income tax, property taxes, roads, bridges, schools, social support network, growth and the cost of groceries? We are paying more in local taxes but they are sent to the state, where they keep the majority and are sitting on a surplus “rainy day fund” while giving less back to our ...

Pay more attention to civics, less to sports

DEAR EDITOR: Every American needs to turn off their sports channel and become aware of the losses of our democracy now in motion. The old adage: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” It is not wise to be consumed by one event. While we have become a nation with our noses glued to the sports channel, we have become connoisseurs of football, basketball, baseball, tennis, boxing and all the rest, that we have seen played over and over again thousands of times, while the government has changed around us. Government policies may be boring but they will affect your life in ...

Some things never change with Browns

DEAR EDITOR: An open letter to Jimmy and Dee Haslam: “There you go again.” Related to Art Modell? “The Move” in 2025 and “The Move” in 1995 are twins-in-time. Moving 13 miles to Brook Park is shorter than Modell’s midnight move of 376 miles to Baltimore, but when re-gutting a sport’s tradition, distance is irrelevant! A $100,000,000 Band-aid for a blood-letting will not staunch the hemorrhaging. Pilfering the team, Modell left the name. Squinting their eyes, fans see the real Cleveland Browns in Baltimore, cross-dressing as Ravens. 1964: Browns 27, ...

GOP changes its tune on guns, profanity

DEAR EDITOR: So Republicans are actually saying not to carry guns after refusing common-sense gun control for years? They also blame protesters in Minnesota because they confront law enforcement personnel, use violence and profanities and hinder proceedings? Sounds like what I saw at the U.S. Capitol not long ago. Republicans are upset at the use of profanity! Seriously! Remember at the Canfield Fair in 2024 when you couldn’t walk 10 feet without seeing “F— Biden” on hats, shirts, and flags? I guess those people were all bused-in paid troublemakers just trying to make ...

Oil, gas industries light fire for Ohio

DEAR EDITOR: Ohio’s natural gas and oil industries have continued to drive economic development in the Buckeye State. This means a flourishing job market and economy, funding for community infrastructure and energy reliability. Cleveland State University found that total upstream investments were up $615 million in the second half of 2024 when compared to the first half. These numbers reflect the continued growth of drilling activity, especially for oil-producing wells. Ohio’s shale-energy “drew” in approximately $3.5 billion in fresh capital between July and December ...
