Dimitrios ‘Taki’ ‘Jim’ Mantos 1948-2026

WARREN — Dimitrios “Taki” “Jim” Mantos, 78, of Warren, passed away on Friday morning, May 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on Jan. 11, 1948, in Rodolivos Serres, Greece, where he went to school and played on the village soccer team, and graduated high school top of his class. He then went to Thessaloniki and earned a technical degree in chemistry and then he went on to serve in the Greek Army.

After his service, Jim moved with his parents to Toronto, Canada, to be with his siblings, who were already living there. It was in Toronto that Jim met the love of his life, Elenie Tsagaris. The two were engaged in Warren in 1972 and he moved to Warren, where they were married in 1973.

Jim worked for AVI Foodsystems in Warren, serving many different roles over his 44 years of employment. Outside of work, Jim was a proud and faithful member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. He was also known as the voice of Greek radio for 42 years. He cherished his many trips to Toronto and Greece to visit his family and was the owner and operator of International Video. Jim was a huge PAOK Greek soccer fan and served as the Junior High Boys’ soccer coach at the Howland Athletic Club in his younger years. He also played on the Hellenic Stars soccer team.

Jim will be remembered for being easygoing, enjoying sitting at the coffee house with his Greek friends, the occasional trip to the casino and cheering on the Cleveland Browns. Most of all, he will forever be known as the number one fan of every activity that his grandchildren were a part of. He will be greatly missed.

Jim will always be remembered by his wife of 53 years, Elenie Tsagaris Mantos of Warren; daughters, Mary Lyn (James) McNally of Warren, Amanda (Michael) Hilas of Warren and Agapi (Adam) Tzagournis of Cleveland; grandchildren, Demetria, Elenie, Andonia, Niko, Dimitrios and Dialechti; sister, Fotini Poulidis of Toronto, Canada; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Adamandios and Agapi Boumbas Mantos; brother, Iakovos “Jack” (Eleftheria) Mandos; and brothers-in-law, Nick Poulidis and Jim Tsagaris.
