John Blasko Jr. 1925-2026

WARREN — John Blasko Jr., born Sept. 19, 1925, in Powhatan Point, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, education, athletics and devotion to family.

Shortly after his birth, John’s childhood home was lost to fire, and his family later relocated to Warren, settling on West Market Street. He was the beloved son of John and Mary Perunko Blasko, both of whom preceded him in death.

John graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1943, where he lettered in orchestra and baseball, reflecting his early love for both music and sports. That same year, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces, serving his country during World War II.

Following his military service, John pursued higher education at George Williams College and Murray State University. As a young man, he worked in a local grocery store and later dedicated himself to youth work in Chicago. Upon returning to Warren, he was employed in several local plants before ultimately finding his true calling in education.

John devoted many years to teaching science at Lakeview High School and Brookfield High School, where he inspired generations of students with his steady guidance and passion for learning. Sports was a lifelong love. From an early age, John participated in a variety of athletic leagues, competing at college, professional and semi-professional levels. He was also active in local organizations, including Highland AC and Jidnota, forming lasting friendships and contributing to the community’s rich athletic tradition.

John was blessed with enduring love in his marriage to Iona (Lonnie) Leonard Blasko, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Boorne, and his son, Brian Blasko.

He is survived by his son, Ray Blasko; daughters, Diane Milliken and Lynne Milliken; stepsons, Robert Leonard and William Leonard; stepdaughter, Karen Donadio; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

His family was his pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

John will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his students, his community and, above all, his family. His steady presence, generous spirit and lifelong love of sports and learning leave a lasting imprint on all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive NE, Warren, OH 44483. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with interment in Pineview Memorial Park.
