NEWTON FALLS — Charles Joseph Hrenko, known affectionately as “Chuck” by his loved ones, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, in Newton Falls.

Born June 15, 1951, in Warren, Chuck lived a full and vibrant life, marked by his infectious laughter, love for the outdoors, and the deep bonds he forged with family and friends.

Chuck attended Newton Falls High School, where he was not only a diligent student but also a valuable asset to the football team, showcasing his team spirit and athletic prowess.

After high school, Chuck embarked on a fulfilling career that began at Rogos Motors, working under the guidance of his brother. His strong work ethic and leadership skills eventually led him to a supervisory role at Atlas Energy, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring.

A man of faith, Chuck’s Christian beliefs were the cornerstone of his life. He lived his faith through his actions, showing kindness and generosity to all who knew him. His commitment to his religion was evident in the way he treated others, always with respect and a willingness to lend a helping hand.

Chuck’s passion for the outdoors was unmistakable. He spent countless hours in the embrace of nature, participating in activities that brought him immense joy. An avid fisherman, he explored numerous lakes across the United States and Canada, with Lake Erie holding a special place in his heart. There, he would skillfully reel in perch and walleye, much to the delight of his family and friends.

His culinary talents were as impressive as his fishing skills. Chuck was a talented chef, known for his mouth-watering fish fries that gathered the community around tables laden with his catch of the day. He also mastered the art of smoking meats and cheeses, a craft he generously shared with those around him. His home was often filled with the mouthwatering aromas of his latest creation, and he took great pleasure in feeding not just the bodies but also the souls of his guests.

To his nieces and nephews, Chuck was more than an uncle; he was a mentor, a confidant and a second parent. Affectionately dubbed the “Funcle,” he brought laughter and joy into their lives, guiding them with wisdom and an ornery spirit that will be dearly missed.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, George and Catherine; his siblings, Dorothy, Patty, Ron and Tom; and three of his cherished nieces and nephews.

His legacy continues through his sister, Jackie; his brothers, Dave and Ken; and the numerous great-nieces and -nephews who will carry forward his memory with love.

His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but they find solace in the countless memories of the times spent with this truly remarkable man. Chuck’s laughter, his stories, and his unwavering spirit, will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Charles Joseph Hrenko, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, adventure, and the joy of sharing life’s simplest pleasures with others.

Friends and family will gather from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, at the AMVETS Post 112 in Newton Falls.
