Leona F. Kagy 1934-2025

Together Again

GREENE — Leona F. Kagy, 91, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born Aug. 26, 1934, in Greene, she was the daughter of the late Glenn William and Mary Smith Owen.

On Aug. 15, 1956, she married her husband, Harold A. Kagy. At the time of his passing in 2021, they had shared 64 years of marriage.

Strong in her faith, Leona was a cherished member of Cortland United Methodist Church for 63 years.

Known for her exquisite cooking and baking, Leona lovingly shared her baking skills with family and friends, and always kept her home immaculate. Alongside her beloved husband, she enjoyed square dancing.

An avid sports fan, Leona enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, cheering for her favorite team, the Cleveland Guardians. Her love of activity extended to volleyball as well.

Leona’s commitment to service was evident in her many volunteer efforts such as at the local elementary school and being on her class reunion committee. She also served as a caretaker for Greenlawn Cemetery, ensuring the resting place of many was tended with care and respect.

Leona was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family commented, “the grandchildren were her reason for getting out of bed every morning.”

She is survived by her children, Kenneth O. (Madeleine) Kagy of Georgia, Janice E. Goss of Ohio and Marcia M. (John) Albert of Missouri; four grandchildren, Stephanie R. Goss of Ohio, Austin E. (Vickie) Goss of Ohio, Meredith S. Kagy of South Korea and Bryson G. Kagy of Texas; great-grandchildren, Isabelle A. Young and Olivia R. Goss; sister, Jean A. Slawinski of Ohio, and brother-in-law, Walter A. (Brenda) Kagy of Kentucky.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Harold, Leona was preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte J. Noble.

Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greene Township.
