Joseph A. Stabile Sr. 1919-2013

NILES – Joseph A. Stabile Sr., 94, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in the home he and his brothers built in 1958.

He was born June 6, 1919, in Niles, the son of Anthony and Rose LaPolla Stabile Sr.

He was employed as a carpenter for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, where he helped build Mount Carmel Rhodes Avenue School, served many years as a festival volunteer and also helped in the renovation of Mount Carmel Church and Rectory.

He enjoyed golfing, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort trips, tinkering around in various projects, and dancing.

Joseph was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in various locations around the world such as Egypt, Sicily, Tunisia, Normandy and Northern France.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Lucille Calderone Stabile, whom he married June 1, 1957; a son, Joseph Stabile Jr. of Niles; two daughters, Joann (Guy Jr.) Nori of Niles and Roseann (Joseph) Marsico of Vienna; a brother, Anthony (Pat) Stabile Jr. of Niles; three sisters, Mary Jane O’Neil of Carthage, Mo., Kathryn Tauro and Rita Gatta, both of Niles; and three grandchildren, Joseph Marsico, Jessica Marsico and Thomas Marsico.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Stabile and Robert Stabile; and a sister, Corsina Yannarella.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Services of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. John-Michael Lavelle officiating.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery, where Joe will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
