McDonald renews pact with solicitor McDONALD — Village Council approved the annual contract to keep Doug Ross as the village’s solicitor at a council meeting May 15. The resolution was in its third reading and the contract will take effect July 1 and run through June 30, 2018. Ross has served McDonald as its solicitor for the past nine years and the terms of the contract will remain exactly the same, according to Mayor Marty Puckett. Niles to purchase new trucks

NILES — The city will move forward with purchasing new trucks for the tree trimming department. The trucks approved for purchase at the May 17 city council meeting will be a 75-foot tree-trimming line truck at a cost of $252,000, a tree-trimming dump truck at a cost of $83,000, a stake body Ford F-450 truck at a cost of $41,926.65 and a Ford F-250 pickup truck with a snow package and plow at a cost of $32,554. Audit finds Girard paid sales tax in error

GIRARD — The city paid a vendor $1,259 in sales tax even though the city is exempt from such taxes, state auditors found. A 2014 audit of the city released Thursday by State Auditor David Yost found the city issued a $19,245 check to Trumbull Industries on June 25, 2014, which included $1,259 in Ohio sales tax. Art Outreach Gallery will offer more than 60 free summer workshops for children beginning June 12.
