Teens from Ireland visit

NILES — Learning archery was just one skill youth from Ireland have gained while spending an entire month in Ohio as part of the Mahoning Valley Ulster Project. The more than 20 youth, including nine local teens and 12 Irish youth, spent four hours one day at the Western Reserve Fish and Game Association in Niles. New attractions brought more people than ever to celebration, five years after the rejuvenation of the festival celebrating Harry Stevens, the immigrant who came to Niles in 1882 and the legendary inventor of the hot dog. Volunteers spreading awareness of overdoses

WARREN — The Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board and the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention started a new door hanger campaign to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic gripping Trumbull County. Fourteen groups of ASAP volunteers on June 28 went house-to-house in Niles and Warren, leaving behind door hangers with information on drug use and how to get help. Reward offered in Niles death probe

NILES — Police here have partnered with Crimestoppers in Youngstown to try to further the investigation into the October 2016 death of an elderly woman inside her Hiram Street home. The agencies announced Tuesday there is now a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in the death of Arlene Frasca, 74.
