Howland OKs data center moratorium

HOWLAND — Another Trumbull County community has joined the ranks of officials taking action on disallowing data centers from entering the area. Trustees at Wednesday’s regular meeting approved a six-month moratorium on the acceptance, review and approval of all applications for zoning certificates, conditional use permits, variants or rezonings, as well as other required approvals for establishing, constructing or operating a data center in the township. Fundraiser boosts pride, joy

WARREN — Members of the Pride and Joy Today Foundation have spent time raising funds to provide services to local children, including summer intervention programs. Sher-ree Glover, president of the foundation, said the organization works primarily with youth with a focus on improving literacy. Joyce reintroduces bill to help reduce opioid overdoses in schools

Republican Congressman Dave Joyce reintroduced a bipartisan bill he said would help reduce opioid overdoses in schools. The School Access to Naloxone Act would amend the Public Health Service Act to strengthen and better target existing federal efforts to reduce opioid overdose deaths by expanding access to overdose-reversal medications, such as naloxone, in elementary and secondary schools, said Joyce, whose district includes all of Trumbull County and, starting Jan. 1, will include portions of Mahoning County. July 3 fest set to mark America250

WARREN — Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission Director Cari Delgado announced at the regular commissioners meeting Wednesday that the America250 Independence Day celebration will take place 5:30 to 10 p.m. July 3 at the Warren Community Amphitheatre in Perkins Park. Liberty police respond to vehicle-damaging reports

LIBERTY — Township police are looking into a series of criminal damage reports involving vehicles in neighborhoods in the span of about seven hours on Tuesday. According to a police report, officers were called to a Beverly Hills Drive residence for a criminal damage report around 9 a.m., speaking with a man who said he went outside that morning to learn that the driver’s-side door handle of his wife’s Kia Sedona van had been tampered with and damaged. Former Warren football standout pleads in dog death case

WARREN — A former Warren G. Harding football standout who was charged with animal cruelty May 15 and whose dog died from starvation will not spend any time in jail. Omar Provitt, 53, of Warren, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a first-degree misdemeanor count of cruelty to companion animals before Warren Municipal Court Judge Patricia Knepp. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 179 days suspended and credit for one day served.
