Warren woman accused of hitting caretaker with battery

WARREN — A Warren woman accused of hitting another woman in the head and threatening to shoot her during a verbal altercation made an appearance in court Monday.

Bond was set at $50,000 for Caitlyn Summers, 27, who pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree assault and aggravated menacing in front of Warren Municipal Court Judge Natasha Natale.

According to a police report, officers were called to a Tod Avenue SW residence in response to a physical disturbance between the caller and a family member, with dispatchers adding that the victim was hit in the head with a battery and the suspect, later identified as Summers, threatened to shoot the caller.

Officers spoke with the caller, a woman serving as a caretaker for the resident, who said she was putting clothes into bags when Summers ordered her to open the door, according to the police report.

The report states a verbal altercation ensued between the two, with the woman stating she did not want to fight and that she would leave — only stating that she needed to grab her belongings.

The woman told officers that Summers “bum rushed” her and was in her face, leading to a physical altercation, during which Summers struck the woman with a blunt object in the back of the head, the report states.

The woman was also sprayed with a substance she believed to be pepper spray, telling officers that Summers threatened to shoot her and told the woman that there are firearms in the residence. The report states officers observed fresh blood on the woman’s left hand and her head was bloody.

Emergency personnel who later arrived on the scene checked the woman out and said she had a laceration on the back of her head and fatty tissue was protruding from it. The report states the woman was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Officers spoke with Summers, who said the woman attacked her upon entering the residence, confirming that they got into a physical fight, during which she got “wrapped up in her hair” and grabbed a blunt object and struck the woman in the back of the head.

The report states that Summers sprayed the woman with a can of deodorizer during the fight, and officers did not see any injuries on her body.

Summers is set to appear back in court Friday, court records show.
