Wood named new fiscal officer in Kinsman

KINSMAN — Township trustees have selected Victoria Wood as the new part-time fiscal officer to replace Marge Crupi who is retiring effective May 1.

Trustee Chairman Greg Leonhard said at this week’s trustee meeting that Wood was selected from three applicants who sought the position.

He said Wood was chosen for her accounting background and human resources experiences as well as experience in running her own business.

“We felt she was well suited for this position,” Leonhard said.

He said Wood will begin training for the position with Crupi at $20 per hour and then begin serving May 1.

Wood will serve in the position through December 2027 but if she wishes to continue as fiscal officer she will need to run in the November 2027 election.

Trustees gave their approval for the county to do Phase 5 of the sidewalk project this year.

Leonhard said the $240,000 project will have funds provided by the Friends of Kinsman Sidewalks through a donation for the sidewalks.

Leonhard said phase 5 includes sidewalks from the east side of Main Street from Lakeview Drive to Route 87 and also Kinsman Nickerson Road east of the square to Garden Street.

The project will also include a Phase 6, which will be done at a later date.

In other business, trustees adjusted the pay of the part-time police chief and the part-time assistant chief.

Leonhard said the police chief will receive an additional $300 per year and the assistant chief who handles IT computer duties for the police department will increase from $20 to $25 per hour for 10 to 12 hours per month.

Thad Stephenson serves as chief and Geoff Fusco as assistant chief.

NUISANCE PROPERTY

Leonhard said trustees have had township legal counsel and the zoning inspector Mark Posey addressing complaints of junk vehicles and other zoning issues at a property off State Street across from the IGA.

Officials have heard from residents at past meetings and in the community about loud noises at night and other matters coming from the property.

Leonhard said the zoning department and the police department have been made aware of concerns from residents of the property.

In other items, trustees:

• Contacted Congressman David Joyce’s office on setting up a public meeting possibly in March to address concerns of flooding in the township in past years and what the state may be able to do to alleviate the problem. Trustees have said with heavy and continual rainfall sections of the township receive excessive flooding.

• Heard from Tod Price, emergency medical service coordinator for Johnston Township Volunteer Fire Department, about the service provided to Kinsman and other townships.

• Set spring cleanup and tire collection for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m,. May 16.
