Howland officials hear 2025 planning department numbers
HOWLAND — Advancements made by new businesses in the township and improvements to private properties made up a majority of its property maintenance, as officials gave their final reports to cap off 2025.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Planning Director Kim Mascarella said the township’s staff had reviewed and approved 250 projects, including 67 nonresidential permits — ranging from large commercial projects to smaller ones, such as signs, new businesses or business permits.
Mascarella said the township had about 145 smaller residential projects totaling approximately $3 million.
“It could be an addition or a shed, or a fence; we had four solar panel installations — so they really are varied,” she said.
Mascarella said the township had seven new single-family homes built, with an average cost of $475,000. Mascarella said the overall property valuation for the year will be “skewed” very high because of Kimberly-Clark.
“It was $140,724,232; generally, we’re in the $13 to $20 million range,” Mascarella said. “So those two projects — their industrial building and their warehouse — really skewed the numbers this year, but we are grateful for that.”
In Zoning Administrator Dan Morgan’s report, he reported 137 cases have been processed, with nearly 500 inspections being done and four being processed through the court system.
“We expect a more aggressive push from Dan and Eric (Hoso) getting more cases into the court; we feel like we have this new — not a home rule resolution, but this new property maintenance will streamline the process,” Mascarella said.
