Community Foundation awards $717K to close 2025
The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has awarded $717,438 through its fourth and final competitive grant cycle of the year, supporting work ranging from the construction of a school library to state-level advocacy work.
With support from fundholders and the Foundation’s discretionary funds, $222,341 was awarded through the CFMV general grant. Meanwhile, three of CFMV’s supporting foundations accounted for more than half of funds disbursed this grant cycle: the Western Reserve Health Foundation awarded $154,000; the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation awarded $141,361; and the William Swanston Charitable Fund awarded $91,061.
In addition to CFMV’s quarterly grant opportunities, two funds made their annual awards. The Ohio Living Lifelong Learning and Senior Support Funds awarded $8,675 to three nonprofits, and the Hospice Trust of Trumbull County awarded $100,000 to Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice for its Pathways of Healing program.
Over the course of 2025, the Community Foundation awarded $2.72 million in competitive grant awards.
“2025 was a turbulent year for nonprofits as they worked to navigate policy changes, surges in community need and more uncertainty than ever. The resiliency and tenacity we saw from everyone working in Valley nonprofits was inspiring and that energy carries us forward into 2026,” CFMV President Casey Krell said. “The Community Foundation remains committed to providing support in all aspects of nonprofit work, from grant funding to professional education to networking. Change in our community doesn’t happen without investing in the people to do the work.”
Deadlines for 2026 for the Community Foundation and its supporting foundations are Jan. 15, April 15, July 15 and Oct. 15. Organizations can see grant opportunities and deadlines, and start their application at CFMV.org/grant-opportunities.
