County expected to progress with new 911 center

WARREN — Commissioners are expected to vote today to accept recommendations of architect Bruce Sekanick and MCM Consultant Jason Roblin to begin negotiations with the Trumbull County Combined Health District to lease the second floor of its Cortland headquarters for the proposed 911 Center.

“The county received four bid proposals, but one was removed because it did not meet the criteria of the request for proposal,” 911 Director Tacy McDonough said.

It was found that the health department building, 194 Main St., was the best of the three remaining proposals based on cost-effectiveness and location.

McDonough said the 911 advisory board agreed with the recommendations of Sekanick and Roblin.

“We had the feasibility study,” McDonough said. “Where we left off was they wanted to do structural engineering tests. We want to complete those so they can give the final bid for the project.”

The health department building previously had been chosen as the best location for the new 911 Center, but it was determined that because rent payments must be paid by the county to the health department, other competitive bids must be sought before a contract could be awarded for the project.

Commissioner Denny Malloy requested the county take the word lease out of the contract proposal so they can begin negotiations.

“It allows our prosecutor and us to start talking about options about moving into the building,” Malloy said.

McDonough questioned whether the passage of the resolution today would have permission to begin the structural analysis of the building.

“Yes,” Hernandez said.

Starting at $3.23/week.
