Warren man arraigned in overdose deaths

WARREN — A 29-year-old man accused of providing drugs that led to the overdose deaths of two people in 2023 was arraigned Tuesday on multiple felony charges, including involuntary manslaughter, with bond set at $100,000.

Lewis Powell III, of Atlantic Street in Warren, appeared before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Sarah Thomas Kovoor. Powell is due back in court Dec. 2.

Powell was arrested by Warren police detectives in the area of McMyler Street and Dickey Avenue after police learned of the secret indictment. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Trumbull County jail.

Powell was secretly indicted Nov. 13 on eight counts stemming from an investigation by the Warren Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit.

The charges include two counts each of involuntary manslaughter and corrupting another with drugs in connection with the May 2023 deaths of Keyatta Riley and Craig Freeman. Powell is accused of providing the drugs to the victims.

Additional unrelated charges against Powell include two counts of possession of a fentanyl-related compound, as well as one count each of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of cocaine with a forfeiture specification.

Starting at $3.23/week.
