Warren-Trumbull library system celebrates ‘Peanuts’

The first “Peanuts” comic strip by Charles M. Schulz was published in seven newspapers on Oct. 2, 1950.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the comic that spawned television specials, movies and stage productions, the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library has events planned throughout October.

Visitors to the branches in Cortland, 578 Lakeview Drive, and Liberty, 415 Churchill Hubbard Road, can work on a “Peanuts”-themed puzzle all month long.

Liberty will have a Charlie Brown Caring Tree throughout October. Library visitors will be able to write down on paper hearts their acts of kindness that they did for someone else and hang the heart on the tree.

The Brookfield branch, 7032 Grove St., will have a DIY Charlie Brown craft kit available for those ages 12 to 18, and Liberty will have a take-and-make “Peanuts” picture frame, both while supplies last.

Brookfield also will show a “Peanuts” movie at 1 p.m. Wednesday on its big screen, and Cortland will host a family movie night featuring a “Peanuts” attraction at 6 p.m. Oct. 9.

Events at the main library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, will include a Great Pumpkin Craft at 6 p.m. Tuesday; a screening of a “Peanuts” movie at 2 p.m. Oct. 18; a “Peanuts” Holiday Extravaganza celebrating all holidays at once at 6 p.m. Oct. 20; a root beer tasting for adults at 6 p.m. Oct. 27; and the teen department’s “It’s the Nightmare on Mahoning Avenue, Charlie Brown!” at 6 p.m. Oct. 29.

Advance registration is required for the Great Pumpkin Craft and root beer tasting either online at www.wtcpl.org/events or calling 330-399-8807, Ext. 200.

Programming at the Howland branch, 9095 E. Market St., includes a trivia night for children ages 9 to 12 at 6 p.m. today; “It’s the Great Library Program, Charlie Brown!,” an evening of snacks and activities for children ages 5 to 12 at 6 p.m. Oct 21; and a book discussion on “Schulz and PEANUTS: A Biography” by David Michaels at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22.

Registration is required for the trivia night and Oct. 21 program online at www.wtcpl.org/events or calling 330-856-2011.
