Union: Hospital training session postponed indefinitely
Furloughed union workers had expected to receive orientation and training Wednesday at the shuttered Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull in Warren.
Instead, they learned the gathering had been postponed indefinitely, according to an official with Service Employees International Union District 1199.
“That’s all I was told,” the official said in an email Wednesday.
The action comes as Insight Health System awaits Ohio Department of Health approval to open its East Market Street location. Insight suspended operations at 3 p.m. March 27 at all of its Valley locations, including Insight Rehabilitation Hospital Hillside, Howland.
Last week, the state agency said it would be conducting an inspection at the facility. According to published reports Wednesday, the department declined Insight’s request, citing issues at the hospital.
An Insight spokesperson said in an email Wednesday that the health system was in communication with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The federal agency oversees the licensing Insight requires to reopen.
“We’re assessing the pathways they require to allow reopening,” the spokesperson said.
Insight officials said once Insight Trumbull reopens it will provide “a 24-7 emergency department with supporting services including inpatient and outpatient services.”
