Trial set for city man indicted in overdose death

WARREN — A 19-year-old Warren man, indicted last week in the overdose death of a 17-year-old girl, had his trial date set for Dec. 15 during a court appearance Tuesday.

Nysier Coleman, a former athlete at Warren G. Harding High School, faces charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and corrupting another with drugs. He appeared for arraignment Tuesday before Judge Sarah Thomas Kovoor in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Coleman pleaded not guilty during an earlier appearance in Warren Municipal Court before Judge Patricia Knepp, who set a $20,000 bond with a no-contact order with the victim’s family.

According to a Champion police report, officers responded around 1:30 p.m. March 27, 2024, to a home in the 400 block of Oak Hollow Drive, where they found the girl unresponsive on the bathroom floor with no signs of life.

In a bedroom, police discovered a book bag containing drug paraphernalia, including a zippered bag with unknown white pills and tin foil with burn marks consistent with heroin use.

The girl’s boyfriend, who called 911, told police she had obtained heroin earlier that evening and later met an individual driving a black vehicle with tinted windows to buy more, according to the report.

Starting at $3.23/week.
