WHAT: City council meeting Sept. 22

PRESENT: Mark Standohar, Keith Schubert, Sam Zirafi, Thomas Grumley, Jeff Kay, Lily Martuccio, John Moliterno, Reynald Paolone and Mayor Mark Zuppo

Council:

• Swore in three new full-time police officers, Jarett Pishotti of Niles, Matthew Payich of Girard and Zachary Cameron of East Liverpool. The police department has 16 full-time officers.

• Heard from Safety Service Director Mark Ragozine that Captain John Freeman has begun as interim police chief as officials wait for the results from a civil service test. Freeman said he is seeking grants for the police department.

• Heard from Ragozine that the Mosier Road waterline installation project will be completed by mid-October.

• Heard from Zuppo a new roof was completed at the Girard Multi-Generational Center.

• Heard from Auditor Julie Coggin that the general fund is at $2,402,758 as of the end of August, which is a decrease of $755,000 from last year. She noted August collections are usually low. Coggins said the ambulance revenue is at $350,00 which helps pay for the part-time firefighters and supplies. She said the water fund is at $180,165 which is the lowest it has ever been.

• Passed a resolution opposing House Bill 335 and urging the Ohio General Assembly to reject legislation that eliminates inside millage and transfers local budgetary authority to county budget commissions.

• Heard from Grumley a cleanup Saturday along Route 422 included 15 tires and 100 bags of trash.

• Requested legislation be prepared for the Oct. 14 meeting to create a new position of cemetery foreman.

• Will seek funding for the resurfacing of Highland Avenue from Morris Avenue to Churchill Road. He said a study of road conditions Highland Avenue was in poor condition.

• Presented the “Willie Constantino Employee of the Month” awards to Nick Cavalier of the street department and Michael Guerrieri of the wastewater treatment plant.

• Announced a fire department open house 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4.

• Set trick or treat 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
