Cortland investigates ‘unexplained death’ of resident

CORTLAND — The Cortland Police Department was called out Saturday morning to check on a resident in the 400 block of North Mecca Street who was found dead inside the home.

Police Chief David Morris said officers were dispatched to the home at 11:55 a.m. Saturday to check the welfare of a woman who lived there at the request of a family member.

Morris said officers made entry into the residence and found the woman’s body.

“Her unexplained death is being investigated with the assistance of the Trumbull County Coroner’s Office and Ohio BCI. At this time, there is not believed to be any threat to the community,” Morris said in a statement on social media.

He said the county coroner is expected to determine the cause of death this week since there was no indication of what caused the woman’s death.

Starting at $3.23/week.
