Champion man accused of stabbing his wife
CHAMPION — A township man is facing attempted murder charges following an incident Monday evening where he is accused of stabbing his wife multiple times.
David Sabolsky, 64, was arrested by Champion police and booked into the Trumbull County jail. He was arraigned Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault and is due back in court June 30, jail records show.
A police report states police were notified at 9:14 p.m. Monday of a stabbing in the 6000 block of Grassy Point in the township. A man reported his mother-in-law had been stabbed by her husband.
When police arrived at the scene, officers found a 64-year-old man, later identified as Sabolsky, in the backyard with superficial wounds to his wrists. The suspect had reportedly tried to cut his wrists after the stabbing.
He was arrested by responding officers without further incident.
The 48-year-old woman victim was found inside the residence with multiple stab wounds. She was later transported by Champion fire/EMS to St. Joseph Warren Hospital, where she is listed in critical but stable condition, according to reports.
A court-authorized search warrant was obtained for the residence, and the suspected weapon was found and seized as evidence. Police said the suspect is the husband of the victim and was treated for his injuries at the hospital and later incarcerated in the Trumbull County jail.
Officers with the Bazetta Police Department and deputies with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office assisted Champion officers with Sabolsky’s arrest.
