Meet the 23rd class of Community Stars
WARREN — Eleven people, including one mother-daughter duo, have been chosen as the 23rd class of Community Stars.
The program, sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle, recognizes the brightest examples of community service and the people who do those good deeds. Trumbull 100 is co-sponsoring for the 15th year.
The Community Stars program celebrates volunteers who go above and beyond to make a measurable impact in the community and the lives of others.
Stories about the 11 winners will appear in a special section in the Tribune Chronicle and will debut at an awards dinner April 9 at the St. Demetrios Community Center in Warren.
The winners were chosen from dozens of nominees.
“We had a nice variety of submissions from all over Trumbull County this year, from Girard to Kinsman. There are a wide variety of areas in which volunteers are serving the community in this year’s submissions. We appreciate all the submissions that people took the time to write,” said Sue Shafer, community events coordinator for the Tribune Chronicle.
This year’s community stars are:
• Tim Boyer of Cortland.
• Sue Datish of Howland.
• Tom Elder of Warren.
• Susan Franko of Girard.
• Nick Frankos of Warren.
• John Guarnieri of Howland.
• Beverly Jones and Farrah Jones (mother and daughter) of Warren.
• Jenna Swesey of Vienna.
• Richard Thompson of Kinsman.
• Porfirio C. (PC) Torres III of Southington.
Tickets for the awards dinner are $30 and are available by contacting Shafer at 330-841-1696 or sshafer@tribtoday.com. Ticket order forms also will run periodically in the newspaper.
