Removing a piece of history

The Moorish-domed cupola from the historic Harsh House next to the Packard building along North Park Avenue NE in Warren is removed by Coon Restoration Specialists of Louisville on Tuesday. The cupola weighs approximately 6,500 pounds and has a slate roof and will be put in storage for the time being. The house was built in the 1890s, and Steven Coon plans to use the space for a parking lot for the Packard building, which he also owns and is restoring. There has been an effort in recent years to save the Harsh Home from demolition, but Coon was not willing to sell it. The three-story, wood-frame house was built for Julia M. Harsh, a descendant of one of the first families to settle in Warren.
