Warren man charged in robberies

YOUNGSTOWN – A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a Warren man on felony charges in connection to two robberies last month in Youngstown and Boardman.

Robert L. Johnson, 50, 1615 McMyler St. NW, Warren, faces two counts aggravated robbery; two counts robbery with firearm specifications and repeat violent offender specifications; and breaking and entering.

If found guilty of all charges, Johnson could face up to more than 40 years in prison.

According to a report from Tribune Chronicle news partner WKBN-TV, police accused Johnson of being involved in robberies at Family Dollar in Boardman and Rite Aid in Youngstown. Police charged that he also was involved in a break-in at the Sparkle in Boardman.

A clerk at Family Dollar told police a man pointed what was believed to be a gun at her and demanded the money inside the cash register. He then made off with 15 packs of cigarettes and other items, the police report states.

The report said Johnson was arrested June 14 at his Warren home by the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
