County approves cooling measures for dog pound

WARREN — The dog days of summer will not be quite as hot for dogs at the Trumbull County Dog Pound and the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project over the next several days as they are receiving blowers and 1,000 pounds of ice. As outside temperatures reach near triple digits, the Trumbull County Commissioners unanimously voted at their meeting Wednesday to rent two 1.5-ton cooling units from Great Lakes Mechanical to be used at the Trumbull County Dog Pound. Jury finds New Castle man guilty in Liberty assault

WARREN — A Trumbull County jury on Tuesday found Justin L. Fry-Starrett, 33, of New Castle, Pa., guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court of felonious assault, domestic violence and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. Fry-Starrett, who has been incarcerated in Trumbull County jail, will undergo a background investigation prior to sentencing by Judge Cynthia Westcott. A renewed effort to aid salaried Delphi retirees obtain pension benefits was thwarted Tuesday. The Dayton Daily News reported U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-North Carolina., prevented the advancement of an amendment to a $1 billion spending package. Foxx chairs the House Rules Committee, where the amendment required its approval.
