Veterans can get free turkey, pie

FOOD FOR VETERANS: The Cover Down Fund will distribute free turkeys and pumpkin pies to local veterans at noon Saturday in the parking lot of the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission, 253 E. Market St., Warren. Items will be distributed while supplies last.

Veterans wishing to participate must present proof of military service, which may include a current military ID, a VA identification card, a county veteran ID or an Ohio driver’s license with the Armed Forces designation.

CHESS NIGHT: New Covenant Baptist Church, 1606 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown, will host “Chess Night 2” 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Those wishing to play a friendly game of chess and those wishing to learn the game are welcome. For more information, call 234-719-8461.

LIBRARY PROGRAMS: The Bristol Public Library will host Chris Smith, presenting “The History that Defines Us” 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. Her presentation is filled with tales of the Great Lakes, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Youngstown.

MUSIC CLUB: The Warren Music Club met Monday for a program at Shepherd of the Valley-Howland. American Music Month, sponsored annually by NFMC, was observed through the Parade of American Music.

Everyone sang the Song of the Month, “America the Beautiful.” Ben Olsen read “I Vow to Thee My Country” by Sir Cecil Spring Rice from A Year in Verse, published by NFMC. Program chair, Alix Hannan, presented a music outreach program for the residents at Shepherd of the Valley. The program featured mostly American music. The club’s choral ensemble sang “Let There Be Peace On Earth” by Miller / Jackson.

Group singing included patriotic and Thanksgiving songs. The NFMC Benediction, “The Gift of Song” was accompanied by Elaine Maki. Refreshments were served by MaryAnne Stefanick and Louise Prib.
