Ries 50th

Richard and Joan Ries of Niles celebrated their 50th anniversary March 25, 2017, with their children and extended family at the Cafe 422 restaurant in Warren.

Mr. Ries and the former Joan Williams were married March 18, 1967, at Howland Community Church.

The couple have two children, Chad (Kanto) Ries of Niles and Sean (Megan) Ries of Birmingham, Ala. They also have five grandchildren.

Mrs. Ries graduated from Kent State University in 1967 with a degree in health and physical education. She taught in Austintown and Niles, but spent most of her career in the Howland Local Schools. She retired in 2004. She was also a middle school volleyball and track coach, and was a volleyball official for many years. She loves quilting, bowling, attending Niles sporting events, singing in her church choir and coaching youth soccer (where she is known as “Coach Grandma”).

Mr. Ries graduated from KSU in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech and English. He received his master’s degree in English education from Westminster College. He taught in Howland Local Schools and retired in 1994. He is an avid Niles McKinley sports fan and is serving as a Niles baseball booster.

Mr. and Mrs. Ries love spending time with their grandchildren.
